Meet and greet by your guide at Lapland Safaris premises in Olos and
receive the thermal clothing. After the guide has explained the travel
plan and introduced everybody to snowmobile driving, your trip to the
north can begin. You have time to learn how to drive and handle a
snowmobile while the safari heads toward the Hetta village which lies
in the place where the fells meet the tundra. You will drive along the
old postal route near the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park and pass
the northernmost growth limit for spruce. In Hetta you will visit the
Snow Castle of Hetta, decorated with ice sculptures and have lunch
there.

is open only for groups with advanced booking and whole the premises
are always in the groups’ private use. Total driving distance today is
approx. 160 km.

Accommodation is in Wilderness Hotel Lavi in twin rooms. The rooms are
comfortable and they each have toilet and shower.
Day 2 – The White Sahara
After a restful night and breakfast at the hotel, you will continue the
safari toward Kilpisjärvi. The further north you travel, the more
rugged the landscape will become; there will be no more pines but only
stunted fell birches. Wolverine, wolf, bear and moose together with
numerous smaller wild animals call this their home. If you are lucky,
you may even spot a rare arctic fox. There are lots of reindeer in
Lapland – many more in fact than humans. The Northwest arm of Finland
is sometimes called the White Sahara and you will see why: in the pure
whiteness of a sunny day, sunglasses are an absolute must. En route
there is a stop to enjoy packed lunch and you will also get to try your
hand ice fishing on a frozen lake. The catch may include for example
greyling, trout or even arctic char. Total driving distance today is
approx. 140 km. Accommodation in Lapland Hotels Kilpis.
In the evening you can enjoy relax in the sauna by the frozen lake and
have swim in the hole in the ice. Dinner is enjoyed in the hotel
restaurant.
Day 3 – The Arctic Ocean
Finnish buffet breakfast is served in hotel restaurant. After
breakfast, weather permitting our snowmobiles will head toward the
Arctic Ocean. On the Norwegian side of the border the landscape will
immediately become more mountainous. With increasing height, the round
peaks of the fells will become more pointed. You will drive towards the
sharp point of the Paras fell. The destination is the bottom of the
Lyngen fjord with its idyllic Norwegian fjord scenery. Here the deep
blue sea is surrounded by high mountain peaks. The brave at heart may
want to dip in the Arctic Ocean, but be prepared for an icy bath!
Packed lunch is served en route. Total driving distance is approx. 160
km. After returning to Kilpisjärvi by snowmobiles, you get to relax in
a hot sauna. Accommodation in Lapland Hotels Kilpis.
In the evening you can enjoy relax in the sauna by the frozen lake and
have swim in the hole in the ice before dinner in the hotel restaurant.
Day 4 – Route Victoria
After Finnish buffet breakfast at the hotel the safari will continue
from Kilpisjärvi back to south. You will follow the route named “Route
Victoria”, named after the Crown Princess of Sweden, toward Muonio.
Along the way the route follows the border river between Finland and
Sweden and there will be a stop to enjoy a packed lunch. The snowmobile
safari ends to Olos in Muonio with total driving distance of approx.
220 km on the last day. After returning of the thermal clothes it is
time to say goodbyes for your guide.
If your not ready for goodbyes yet, you can for example stay for the
night at Lapland Hotels Olos or at the log cottages in Kelokaira
Wilderness Center and make a visit to reindeer farm the following day
