THREE DAYS TO ARCTIC SEA

valid for groups 4-20 persons

GENERAL INFORMATION

During this three-day safari you will experience the true nature of Lapland; driving the snowmobiles through snow covered forests, along frozen river and on lake ice surrounded by the unspoiled nature. Accommodation is provided in comfortable and rustic cottages. Meals vary from outdoor lunches to farmhouse meals.

Each participant is provided a complete safari outfit (boots and woollen socks, overall, balaclava and helmet, mittens, extra woollen hat and scarf). Personal luggage is packed in the back of the snowmobile throughout the trip, so please keep it light. Personal backpacks are handy and therefore recommended. Clothes to be worn under the safari outfits should be light, warm and comfortable e.g. wool or fleece.

The driving distance varies daily from 140 to 240 km, so the physical condition of the participants should be good.

Day 1 – SAARISELKÄ – NELLIM – NEIDEN (Norway)

Meet your safari guide at your hotel reception. You will take a short walk to safari office nearby where you will dress up to warm safari clothes and then you are ready to go!

After a short lesson of safety and driving instructions you will start your journey to wilderness.  The track goes to east, through the snowy forests close to the Russian border. You reach the village of Nellim, which inhabitants are Skolt or Inari Sámi. Lunch in Nellim.

After the lunch brake, the route goes further north and ends to Neiden village at Norway, located near Finnish border. First you have a possibility to relax in the sauna and then enjoy a good dinner. Overnight in cabin.

Driving distance is about 240 kilometres.

Day 2 – NEIDEN – LAPIN LEUKU

After breakfast the safari continues to the Arctic Ocean.  You drive along the snow-covered roads and reach the sea. It is time to take photos of this memorable moment and beautiful view with the open sea in front of you! Then you will return back to Finland and on your way you will cross the 3rd biggest lake in Finland – Lake Inari.  The lunch is prepared by an open fire.
 
In the afternoon you will arrive to Lapin Leuku, a wilderness hotel by the Lake Inari. At Lapin Leuku you will enjoy of Finnish sauna, dinner and then after a long day it’s time to rest. Overnight in cabins.

Driving distance is about 190 kilometres.

Day 3 – LAPIN LEUKU - SAARISELKÄ

After a hearty breakfast the safari continues along Lake Inari to Inari village. En route you will have a change to try ice fishing. Your journey will continue through beautiful landscape ending up to a reindeer farm by a lake.

Reindeer herder is already waiting for you and he will arrange you a reindeer driving school. After a short drive on a reindeer sledge you will go inside a Lappish tepee - “kota”, where you will have lunch and coffee with Lappish cheese. After lunch you will drive through Hammaskaira forest to Saariselkä ski resort.

Driving distance is 140 kilometres.

SNOWMOBILE ADVENTURE SAARISELKÄ – ARCTIC SEA 2010

GENERAL INFORMATION

During this five-day safari you will experience the true nature of Lapland; driving the snowmobiles on frozen rivers and lakes and in snow covered forests, surrounded by the unspoiled nature. Accommodation is provided in comfortable and rustic cottages. Meals vary from outdoor lunches to farmhouse meals.

Each participant is provided a complete safari outfit (boots and woollen socks, overall, balaclava and helmet, mittens, extra woollen hat and scarf. Personal luggage is transported throughout the trip on the back of your snowmobile, so please keep it light. Personal backpacks are handy and therefore recommended. Clothes to be worn under the safari outfits should be light, warm and comfortable e.g. wool or fleece.
The driving distances vary from 120 to 180 km per day, so the physical condition of the participants should be good.

Day 1 – SAARISELKÄ - KAAMANEN

You will meet your safari guide at the hotel. You dress you up into warm safari clothing in the Safari Club.

After driving instructions are given, you will start your journey to Inari. On your way to Inari you will enjoy lunch by the open fire. The route will go through the snowy forests and after a while you will arrive to a reindeer-farm  by a small lake.

Your host is waiting for you and he will arrange you a reindeer driving school. After a short drive with a reindeer sledge you will enjoy a cup of coffee with Lappish cheese in Kota tent. Your safari continues in the wilderness towards our guesthouse in Kaamanen. First you relax in sauna and then you enjoy dinner. Overnight in log cabins.

Driving distance is about 130 kilometres.

Day 2 – KAAMANEN - NUORGAM

After breakfast the safari continues directly towards Utsjoki and Nuorgam. You will have lunch by the open fire during safari. In the afternoon you will arrive to Nuorgam village, where accommodation is in cabins. Before dinner you will have sauna near by the Teno-river.

During the day you drive approximately 160 km.

Day 3 – NORWAY

After breakfast you will meet your Norwegian safari guide and continue your safari on Norwegian side. You drive up to the fells and down to the sea. You enjoy lunch in old fisherman's log cabin. In the afternoon you will came back to Finland and overnight again in Nuorgam.

Driving distance is 180 km.

DAY 4 – NUORGAM - NELLIM

You drive along the snow-covered roads and reach the great lake of Inari, which is more than 100 km long. Lunch is prepared over an open fire and you can try also ice-fishing. In the late afternoon you will arrive to Nellim, which inhabitants are Skolt or Inari Sámi.  In the evening sauna and dinner. Overnight in double rooms. Driving distance is about 180 kilometres.

DAY 5 – NELLIM - SAARISELKÄ

After a hearty breakfast the safari continues to wilderness.  The track goes to east, through the snowy forests close to the Russian border. We enjoy lunch in Restaurant KaamosKammi. After coffee you continue our safari to Saariselkä ski resort area.

Driving distance is 120 kilometres.
